So what is G.R.i.P.?
The Generic Role-playing for Internet Players system is a set of personal gaming apps which bring you all of the basic tools required to conduct a typical face-to-face role-playing session, and combines them with the power of the internet to let you play any RPG with anyone with internet access, anywhere in the world. The GM's portion of the suite, iGM, is shareware from QuikLink Interactive, while iPC, the Player's module, is freeware.

While I have designed an MT-variant character sheet for use in my non-canon Traveller universe, I suggest we use Capt. Ron's excellent character sheet from his Hefry Starport campaign. His detailed Classic Traveller character sheet can be downloaded directly from his main page, as can some very useful griplets (weapons and equipment) designed to work with that CharSheet. Or, download the inevitable tweaked version availabel below.

None of these tools, other than iPC are absolutely required for the campaign, especially since I can provide character sheets and will be reviewing ones you produce yourselves.

What's a Firefly?
Joss Whedon's 13 episode Firefly series, aired on FoxTV in the fall of 2002, is the story of Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds and his ragtag crew on the rogue Firefly class starship, Serenity, and their struggle to stay alive in the wake of a galactic civil war 500 years in the future.
The firefly in this campaign is an adaptation of the class to the Traveller rules and universe. It does not take place in Joss Whedon's Union 'verse.

  • The best single repository of info on Joss' universe that I have found so far is to be found at FireflyFans.net's Firefly Reference Database.
  • The Firefly series can be purchased on DVD and will soon become a feature film from Universal Studios and Mutant Enemy, Inc. (Joss' studio).

Where the Heck Are We?
Princess Butterfly
is currently at Garrincski (H/2520) in Spinward Marches sector. She is headed for Heroni (L/2521) in the same sector.

Odds and Ends:
Being bits and pieces used in the campaign which didn't fit anywhere else. Here's where you can pick up

  • My minor revision of Capt. Ron's Classic Traveller Character Sheet (added a Notes tab for those little memos most Players accumulate and played with the skill rolls coding). 30KB, freeware
  • My Firearms template griplet 5KB, freeware and the Melee griplet 5KB, also freeware. The only differencde is that firearms "fire X at Y", while melee weapons "attack Y with X".
  • The corresponding Non-WeaponSkills griplet 3KB, freeware. All three of these use the system code in my CT character sheet and won't work without their system griplets.
  • Inventory Item, on the other hand, simply equips or puts away a piece of equipment and thus stands on its own: griplet 1KB, freeware
  • Copies of iPC (5 MB freeware) and iGM (7.5 MB shareware) for those having difficulty finding them at QLI. iGM, needed only by GMs, is the complete suite while iPC is the freeware Player's modules only. Only the GM's modules timeout after 30 days.

  • Unless you prefer to generate your characters by hand, I suggest Hugh Foster's TravGen 6 which produces highly detailed Traveller characters using both CT and MT rules. Many, many races and careers are catered for. For campaign characters, use the Options tab to set all options other than Automatic generation off. If you ask me to generate your character for you, this is the program I will be using.
