Fireflies are typically unarmed, streamlined Free Traders capable of carrying only small, highly lucrative cargoes. Because of their layout, there are several tons of hidden cargo spaces for smuggling. Based on a custom 320T hull, the original TL 10 firefly model typically mounts jump drive A, maneuver drive B, and power plant B, giving a performance of jump-1 and 2-G acceleration. 147 tons of fuel tankage allows two consecutive jumps and 4 weeks of operation without refueling. A single launch, accessible from the companionway to the bridge, is carried externally.

Equipped with 4 crew staterooms, and usually configured for 5 passenger SR, and 100 tuns of cargo space, a model 1 has a minimum crew of 3 (pilot, navigator, medic) at a cost of 157.165 MCr. new. Now obsolete, they can be purchased used for much less.

The Princess Buttercup is an old model 1 currently under charter and has, alas, been suffering from a lack of spare parts.
